Cloud Applications

Access from everywhere to anywhere.

In the Cloud Network the core functions of the network are not only software-defined, but every networking function is virtualized and delivered as a service, including optimal packet path selection and security policy enforcement. The Cloud Network provides enterprise-grade application performance, unprecedented orchestration visibility, and reliable network connectivity, application access, performance and security to users at every location.

The workplace is vibrant, unpredictable, demanding, unbounded.

Your users move around everywhere, they work from assorted places—increasingly from locations you do not own or control—and insist on using a plethora of different devices to access an ever-larger number of cloud-based applications. Every branch office must access the enterprise-wide inventory system, and everyone in the organization must access the employee-benefits site. There are no perimeters left in your network, no local applications, no definable set of end user devices, no telling where the next employee or worker may be and what application they might need.

And your job is to make sense of this and provide secure access for every worker from wherever they are to access everything they might need to get their job done. And do it with the appropriate and expected application performance. This is really hard to do with a traditional network architecture.

Data migrated to the cloud, as did computing resources and applications. This transition provided unrivaled ease of management, elasticity to shrink or grow as needed, and ubiquitous access, all with optimized operational costs and frequently leveraging already-invested-in resources.

Now network services are being transformed by the same software-defined virtualization principles that revolutionized enterprise application and computing architectures. Cloud-based networks provide solutions to the energetic and unpredictable distributed enterprise that strains traditional network architectures characterized by strict public-private demarcations, and strong dependence on geographic location and ownership of network hardware.

The network is the cloud,
and the cloud is the network.

Virtualized Network Services

The Cloud Network elevates network services to a virtual plane above the physical transport, and separates services—and access to these—from physical connectivity and devices. The data-plane/control-plane abstraction that altered software design architectures decades ago is now also altering the network landscape. The data plane is the physical network devices and “pipe” connectivity, owned by everyone and anyone, and the control plane is the software-defined services that form hardware-independent private, public, or meshed “networks” secured and controlled through software-based access policies, security policies, authentication, and traffic engineering.

Accelerate AWS Applications With Cloud-Delivered SD-WAN

With VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud™, you can assure performance for applications and data hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), while simplifying deployments and reducing costs. Virtual Edge instances are easily deployed in AWS, giving you the same reliability and cloud-application quality as the VMware SD-WAN solution. Benefit from award winning capabilities such as Dynamic MultiPath Optimization (DMPO) and protection from blackouts and brownouts with sub-second failover. Seamlessly interoperate with VMware SD-WAN Gateways and VMware SD-WAN Edges, extending your VMware SD-WAN solution to AWS. With AWS Marketplace 1-Click fulfillment, deployment is greatly simplified. Take advantage of business policy automation, granular visibility, and real-time application monitoring with VeloCloud Management and Orchestration. Flexible licensing options allow you to leverage BYOL (Bring Your Own License) on a perpetual or annual basis.

Secure, Optimized Traffic Everywhere

Encryption tunnels are dynamically established between destinations that need them, when they need them, building a short– or long–lived VPN. The tunnels are based on business policies and leverage a direct path—over traditionally private or public transport facilities—between the edge user and the SaaS application. Traffic is secured by cloud services, including firewalling and encryption, without the need to backhaul traffic through the corporate data center.

Enterprise-grade Performance, Availability and Stability

The software-defined architecture of the Cloud Network provides continuous monitoring and measuring of traffic and transport facilities. The analytics serves a dual purpose: it makes single-point management of the network easy and visible, and it provides embedded network knowledge to optimally steer traffic flows around problem spots or outages. This allows the IT manager not only passive monitoring of network activity, but active remediation capabilities to ensure the best possible application performance experience to every branch office and every end user.

Single-point Orchestration with Visibility, Analytics and Control

The Cloud Network allows insertion of services where and when they are needed. Decoupled from the physical hardware and transport, these services can be applied to traffic flows dynamically to provide the agility required to manage today’s corporate communication needs. Cloud Network orchestration provides unprecedented visibility and awareness of traffic quality and traffic patterns, one-click business and security policy management, automated delivery and provisioning of new and existing sites.

“Having reliable VoIP and access to our modeling applications is a huge win. Plus the fact that we can deliver these benefits to our users while increasing IT efficiency and reducing costs—it doesn’t get much better than that. We have cut our operational costs by 50% by avoiding trips to remote locations for IT reasons.”
