Leading Transformation at the Network Edge

Network Edge connects and enables critical functions where the customer requirements for transformation reside — at the Edge of the Enterprise — at the branch, in the cloud, and in the data center.

Network Transformation with VMware SD-WAN and AT&T

What is Network Edge?

Network Edge optimizes, controls, manages, and secures application traffic across the network from distributed enterprise locations to the private and public cloud data centers. Network Edge also serves as a platform for deploying virtual network services that integrate with local edge compute to manage and control application traffic from users and things.

At Its Core

Software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) and complementary Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) are the core enablement functions for Network Edge, service chained to support application traffic at the edge and the cloud.

How it Works

SD-WAN leverages the benefits of the cloud, the bandwidth of Internet and any other enterprise network infrastructure. SD-WAN delivers high performance, real time applications (such as voice, video and data), optimized QoS and access to cloud applications, quickly and cost effectively from every location across the enterprise.

Where It Happens

Network Edge functions run on a range of hardware platforms from a single integrated appliance to clusters of server class computers. Components include a physical or virtual edge, set of distributed multitenanted gateways, and a multitenanted orchestration tool that centrally manages the functions.

Hyperscale Your Cloud and Network

VMware SD-WAN delivers automated access to IaaS, SaaS, and security clouds using a hyperscale solution that leverages a global network of multi-tenant cloud gateways and multi-tier co-managed orchestrators.

Hyperscale Cloud

Simple on-ramp to any globally available cloud and low latency access to applications is easy with VMware SD-WAN‘s multi-tenant gateways located in close proximity to all major cloud data centers.

Cloud Ecosystem

Enabling organizations’ cloud strategies across on-premises data centers, hybrid, and multi-cloud is optimized using VMware SD-WAN through insertion of cloud security, mid-mile, and analytics.

Client to Cloud Container

Delivering cloud-managed VMs and Kubernetes containers to real-time and critical applications, VMware SD-WAN brings workloads out to the distributed edge, enabling the shift to hybrid and multi-cloud where applications are migrating.

SD-WAN technology has realized dramatic results for many businesses including real-time application performance, simplified network deployment and management, automation, self-remediation, transport independence. The digital transformation continues unabated. Sensors and cameras are ubiquitous, handheld user devices have substantial computing power, IoT, 5G networks and more.
